Where Do You Store Your Eggs?

Although it may seem relatively unimportant, correct egg storage is vital in keeping your eggs fresh. So, we have gathered some rules and pointers on where you should properly store your eggs:

Eggs should be kept in the carton in which you purchase them, as it is designed specifically for this purpose. The carton helps the eggs from picking up odors and flavors from other foods and prevents moisture loss. There is no debate, the refrigerator is the only place to store your eggs to ensure quality and food safety. The best location in your refrigerator to store your eggs is on an inside shelf. Repeated opening and closing of the door causes temperature fluctuations and slamming can result in breakage. So, we suggest being mindful of the door: think about what you need from the refrigerator before opening and make sure to close the door with caution. You can keep fresh, uncooked eggs in the shell refrigerated in their cartons for at least four to five weeks beyond the pack date or about three weeks after you bring them home. Properly handled and stored, eggs rarely spoil. If you keep them long enough, they are more likely to simply dry up. We strongly suggest that you not leave eggs out after you bring them home. They’ll age more in one day at room temperature than they will in one week in the refrigerator!
